Introduction

Modern society is turning into a ubiquitous information society in the 21st century.

Electronic engineering is a principal part in the ubiquitous information technology (IT). Thus, the major focuses on producing professional engineers who can adapt well to the rapidly changing global environment with good creativity and leadership. To meet the educational goal, the major is trying to help the students obtain a broad understanding of the key concepts for the basic and advanced fields such as semiconductor devices, sensors and the system, analog and digital circuits, integrated circuits and systems, designs for integrated circuits, microwave engineering and communication, signal processing and communication systems, image processing, optoelectronic devices and the system, control and automation, computer architecture and programming, and other IT-related subjects. The major is also equipped with sufficient research facilities and experimental equipments to improve the quality of education and research. The harmonious education system, which consists of experiments and their simulations with software and theoretical lectures, produces very competitive and creative engineers.

Job Fields

After graduating, students can have an engineer position in Electronics, Computer Science, and Information Communication-related companies such as Samsung Electronics, LG Electronics, LG Philips Display, Hyundai Electronics, SK Telecom, and other industries. Graduates may also find employment as a research engineer in public or national research institutes such as ETRI and KAITECH. Furthermore, students may also go on to graduate schools or go study abroad. Most of all, many opportunities are given to all students in this major in order to help students find careers in whatever they desire.

    PRACTICAL ENGLISH
    The aim of the course is to help students develop basic English verbal skills in real life situations. The course will be co-taught by Korean and Native English instructors. Korean instructors will provide students with basic English structure, vocabulary, and expressions, and students will be encouraged to practice speaking English utilizing basic English structures. Students will further practice expressing themselves in English with native English instructors.

    This course contains basic properties of sequences, limit of functions, continuous functions, rational and irrational functions, transcendental functions, elementary calculus, 3-dimensional vectors, and matrices.

    SEMINAR FOR ACADEMIC LIFE
    1. Summary of the course This course is to assist university freshmen in CRM designing to adapt university life well through the instruction and counselling of supervising professor. (This course is composed of self analysis, personality type test, career research, instruction for the success of university life, career plan and direction setting, CRM designing method and CRM designing. The course should be teaching in classes of the students by supervising professor.) 2. Course objectives This course is to motivate the students before the mid term exam and provide students with self analysis, personality type test (MBTI or TCI) and career research (YAT test). Also, this course shall has a plan to instruct the students to enhance the efficiency of university life through career and time management. In addition, this course is to make a chance for the students to have practical assistance to university life by providing study method, report designing strategy and the information on academic system and various kinds of internal programs of the university. After the mid term exam, the students will be instructed to set the direction of career designing through continuous counselling of supervising professor and the students will be able to establish CRM designing and execution plan.

    This course is to cultivate community sense as members of society and the global village for students in order to develop the basic knowledge required as global citizens. Especially, this course is to foster the spirit of cooperation, sharing, service, and creativity and study the social contribution and leadership to solving the challenges the global community faces. As a liberal arts course, it is centered to nurture a leader having the global capability to contribute to community development through learning the knowledge and the case on the value & logic of social responsibility focused on environmental preservation, social contribution, and good governance(ESG). This course aims to foster a generous mind, learn knowledge and technology and build the capacity to contribute to building a society towards a safer and happier world through the study of theory and practice.

    SOFTWARE AND AI
    Software and AI (Artificial Intelligence) course aims to educate the basic concepts of software and computational thinking to use them in various applications. It allows students of various majors to experience the core technologies of the 4th industrial revolution, such as big data, machine learning, and AI. It also introduces various applications of AI so that students can easily apply these technologies to their field of study. This course classifies the lecture types into three categories, and adjust the lecture difficulty according to the student's academic ability.

    C-PROGRAMMING
    As the latest technologies such as Artificial Intelligence, Big Data Analysis, Block Chain are emerging, the importance of software is being emphasized. In this course, we will try to study the theory and practice of C programming language which is the basis of such software development. This course allows us to form a programming mind while cultivating programming problem solving and logical thinking skills.

    Calculus(1) covers the following: Sequences, limits and continuity of functions of single variable, derivatives, properties of derivatives, differentiation rules, higher order derivatives, applications of derivatives, definite integrals, indefinite integrals, properties of integrals, integration rules, applications of integrals, infinite series power series.

    GENERAL PHYSICS Ⅱ
    Introduction to electromagnetism and electrostatics: electric charge, Coulomb's law, electric structure of matter; conductors and dielectrics. Concepts of electrostatic field and potential, electrostatic energy. Electric currents, magnetic fields and Ampere's law. Magnetic materials. Time-varying fields and Faraday's law of induction. Basic electric circuits. Electromagnetic waves and Maxwell's equations.

    INTRODUCTION TO ENGINEERING DESIGN
    This subject invokes the interests of freshman engineer to engineering prior to regular engineering subjects. Creative problem solving skills are taught in the class such as brain storming, generation, analysis, practice, evaluation, and improvement of idea through minimum theory and various design projects, etc. Various projects for visual thinking and drawing, power writing skills, model bridge design, are carried out to operate, evaluate the performance of students on group base competition and thus enhances teamwork and communication skills. By taking this course, freshmen begin to have interests in engineering design and can develop creative problem solving skill, and eventually develop strong desire to continue engineering career.

    The purpose of this lecture is to help students prepare getting a job such as interview, aptitude test, personality test and etc.

    BASIC ELECTRICAL AND ELECTRONIC LABORATORY I
    The primary objective of this course is to familiarize students with the basic properties and application of the electrical components such as resistor, inductor, capacitor, diode, and transistors. The major emphasis will be on the circuit properties of the components. This course covers in the field of the basic RLC circuit, rectifiers, filters, and amplifiers with the usage of DC-power supplier, oscilloscope, and digital multimeter.

    CIRCUIT THEORY I
    This course provides fundamental methods to analyze basic electric circuits which consist of resistors, independent or dependent sources, and energy storage elements.

    DIGITAL LOGIC DESIGN
    The digital system consists of logic circuits that process a binary information. This course provides students with digital circuit design technology using two analytic methods. The first level deals with the analysis and design of combinational and sequential circuits using gates and flip-flops and the second one is to design in the register transportation level using VHDL.

    ELECTROMAGNETISM I
    The primary purpose of this course is to acquaint the student with the electromagnetic properties of material and to understand how electromagnetic theory is applied to related areas. This course includes the basic vector analysis, electrostatic field, potential, electrostatic energy and steady current.

    This course covers differential equations, complex analysis, Laplace transform, linear algebra, etc.

    PROGRAMMING LANGUAGES
    The Object-Oriented Languages, such as C++, Ada, and Java, become more important especially in large-scale software systems, and the knowledge in some depth of OO paradigms is prerequisite to learn such languages. OO analysis, design, and test methods Practice and training are needed for studying every programming language.

    CAREER DESIGN
    1. Summary of the course This course is to let the students to set the career goal at the early stage of university life through systematic and continuous counselling and instruction on CRM achievement and change of career designed by the students after the admission to the university. This course is to let the students attain career management method and edit, complement and confirm the CRM in a systematic manner by self analysis and analysis of employment competence while the course is being taught. Also, this course is to utilize video lecture as the secondary teaching material to let the students have competency in employment. 2. Course objectives This course is to assist to the enrolled students in designing their own employment plan for themselves by the education of drafting application materials for employment (resume, statement of purpose and application forms), communication skills and presentation skills. Furthermore, the course ultimate goal of guiding the students to systematically design (manage) CRM at each grade of the university with the counselling by the supervising professor until the time of graduation.

    CIRCUIT THEORY II
    This course covers AC -circuit analysis, frequence response, and the circuits with OPAMP and Diodes. Topics covered on AC-circuit analysis are AC steady-state analysis, AC steady-state power and three-phase circuits. For frequency analysis, several topics such as circuit analysis in the s-domain, frequency response, fourier series and transform are discussed.

    DESIGN OF DIGITAL SYSTEM
    Digital system plays a major important role in modern electronic devices such as smartphone, digital TV and so on. This course provides methods and skills to design digital systems. In the first half of this course, a design of simple processor is scheduled. In the second half of this course, more complex design example will be given and it will be implemented using FPGA board. This course also covers hardware description language, specifically focus on Verilog due to the increasing needs in the design of system-on-chip.

    An introduction to mathematical methods for analysis and design of linear time-invariant dynamic systems in electrical engineering.     AUTOMATIC CONTROL
    The aim of this course is to provide opportunity to study the basic of feedback control systems. This course deals with modeling of dynamic system, signal flow graph, state equation, characteristics and performances of the feedback control system, simple stability analysis of linear system using Routh-Hurwitz method, root-locus techniques, frequency response techniques, stability of frequency domain and design of feedback control system.

    The aim of the this course is to provide opportunity to do experiments using various control apparatus. The items of experiment are as follows; CEMTool, SIMTool Laboratory, Organization of inverted pendulum and mathematical modeling, System response and analysis, Root locus analysis, Lead/Lag Compensator design, Frequency response analysis, PID controller design of inverted pendulum.

    DATA STRUCTURES AND DICTIONARY OF ALGORITHMS
    Data structures and algorithms introduce the most important algorithms and data structures in use on computers today. Particular emphasis is given to algorithms for sorting, searching, and string processing. Fundamental algorithms in a number of other areas are covered as well, including geometric and graph algorithms. The course will concentrate on developing implementations, understanding their performance characteristics, and estimating their potential effectiveness in applications.

    Digital signal processing(DSP) is generally regarded as one of the most mathematical topics in the electrical engineering. This course provides an insight and practical guidance to engineers for designing and developing practical DSP systems. This course covers fundamental topics such as sampling and quantization of signals and their implications in real-time DSP, discrete time signals and systems, Fourier & z-transform, convolution and correlation, and several filter design such as FIR and IIR systems.

    IOT CONVERGENCE CIRCUIT DESIGN
    The IoT convergence, which connects various objects based on wireless communication or connects objects and people, is a core technology of the fourth industry era including all fields of electronics such as wireless communication, sensor, semiconductor, electronic circuit design, and electromagnetic wave theory. In this course, we will learn design techniques that are essential for IoT convergence technology using semiconductor circuits. We will understand basic semiconductor devices and practice the discrete circuit and integrated circuit design to develop the basic competence to prepare the future industry of IoT convergence. In particular, we will focus on module miniaturization and integration technology, low power circuit design, power supply and control circuit design, and semiconductor integrated circuit design required for IoT convergence technology.

    Artificial intelligence is an entire or partial implementation of human sensing, inferencing, and acting process in artificial ways. Recent artificial intelligence is represented as a computational model on electronic computing devices and we need to optimize it by modifying and analyzing a large size of data to make it work as an artificial intelligence. This process is called machine learning. In this course, we will cover the theoretical background, various methods, applications of artificial intelligence, and machine learning from rule-based reasoning to deep neural networks.

    In this lecture, we can understand the operation principle of the various electrical circuits in the microwave frequency range. And we can also design the circuits for the applications using the EDA tools, which are used in the industry and research fields. This lecture is covered with device physics, circuit designs in the transistor level, and the optimum design method for each application. After this lecture, the students can have ability to design the integrated circuits for applications in the microwave frequency range.

    This course studies the design of Very Large Scale Integrated (VLSI) circuits. The topics of this course include Complementary Metal-Oxide Semiconductor (CMOS) technology and theory; CMOS circuit and logic design; layout rules and techniques; CMOS subsystem design.
